Converting Lofts and Attics Manley
Loft conversions transform wasted roof space into functional living areas such as bedrooms, home offices or ensuite bathrooms, with the approach and requirements depending on your existing roof type.
This is amongst the most popular types of project we are asked to undertake, and we would love to assist you. We manage every aspect of the work, from early preparation through to scaffolding installation, timber carpentry, roofing alterations (where needed), internal finishing including floor laying, plasterboard installation, plumbing systems and electrical installations.
The main types of conversions are:
- Dormer – a boxed structure extending outwards from the roof slope to create full-height headroom and window openings
- Hip-to-Gable – converting a sloping hipped side into a vertical gable wall to increase usable space on semi-detached and end-of-terrace properties
- Mansard – reconstructing one or both roof slopes to an almost vertical angle with a flat section above for maximum floor area, typically requiring planning permission
- Velux / rooflight – retaining the existing roofline and installing windows into the slope where sufficient headroom is already present
- L-shaped – pairing a principal rear dormer with an additional dormer above the rear extension outrigger on traditional terraced homes
Across all types, the work encompasses structural modifications to the roof, installation of new floor joists, staircase fitting, insulation to meet current building regulations, and complete internal finishing.
